The handbrake lever travel should be 2-4 clicks.
To adjust the handbrake, you will need a viewing hole or overpass.
Handbrake adjustment
1. We prepare the car for repair work (see paragraphs 2b and 4 "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Fully lower the hand brake lever.
3. Holding the adjusting nut from turning with a 13 mm open-end wrench, loosen the lock nut with a 13 mm spanner.
4. We wrap the adjusting nut 2-3 turns.
5. Check the travel of the handbrake lever. If it is large - we wrap the adjusting nut, if the handbrake lever stroke is less than 3 clicks - we unscrew the adjusting nut.
Note. If the length of the threaded part of the rod is not enough to adjust the travel of the hand brake lever, the drive cables must be replaced.
6. Having adjusted the stroke of the hand brake lever, we raise the rear of the car with a jack. We check the ease of rotation of the rear wheels and the reliability of their fixation with a hand brake.
7. If the brake pads do not interfere with the rotation of the wheels, fix the adjusting nut with a locknut.
8. We check the performance of the parking brake system: on a slope with a slope of at least 23%, the parking brake system must reliably keep the car stationary.
