Helpful advice. It is more convenient to replace the alternator drive belt and adjust its tension from the bottom of the car. To do this, raise the front of the car and remove the engine crankcase protection.
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «–» battery.
2. Loosen the nuts of the lower..
3.... and the upper mounts of the generator.
4. Turn out an adjusting bolt on the maximum possible size and remove
old belt, pushing the generator as far as possible to the cylinder block.
5. Put a new belt on the crankshaft pulley, and then on the alternator pulley. Then adjust the belt tension.
6. To tighten the belt, move the alternator away from the cylinder block by turning the adjusting bolt clockwise.
7. For easing of a belt bring the generator to the block of cylinders, turning an adjusting bolt counter-clockwise. Turn the crankshaft with a wrench on the pulley mounting bolt two turns clockwise and check the belt tension again. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
8. Tighten the generator fastening nuts.
Helpful advice. If you have a digital autotester, then you can use it to very accurately adjust the belt tension. To do this, preheat the engine to stable idling, connect the tester in voltage measurement mode to the battery and slightly loosen the generator tension assembly. If the tension is not enough, the numbers on the tester will change continuously. Gradually move the alternator in the direction of belt tension (tension bolt) until the numbers on the tester stop jumping. By tightening the alternator mounts in this position, you will ensure optimal belt tension.
