Disconnect the wire from the terminal "-" battery.
Remove the steering wheel (see subsection 6.1.), remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel (see subsection 8.6.1.), remove the intermediate steering shaft (see subsection 6.2.).
The steering column uses two ball bearings 2108-3401120 (the same as on front-wheel drive VAZ models). The GPZ marking is applied on the side of the outer ring of the bearing. Bearing number (according to GPP) - 1000805.
1. Install the bracket assembly with the steering column shaft in a vise and...
2.... using a soft metal mandrel, knock out the steering column shaft from the bracket.
3. Remove the shaft from the bracket.
4. Use a screwdriver to remove the bearing from the steering column shaft.
5. Insert the shaft into the bracket and press out the second bearing with hammer blows through the soft metal mandrel.
6. Install the new bearing in the steering column shaft bracket with the narrow flange of the bearing bush facing out.
7. Press the bearing in until it stops with a mandrel. It should rest only on the outer ring of the bearing.
8. Insert the steering column shaft into the bracket.
9. Install the second bearing in the shaft bracket (see operation 6) And...
10....press in the bearing using a mandrel. It should rest only on the outer ring of the bearing. Install the steering column to the vehicle in the reverse order of removal.
