Set the steering wheel to the position where the vehicle is moving straight ahead.
Remove the front wheels.
When the steering gear parts wear out, knocking sounds appear and the steering wheel free play increases. When these signs appear, first check the tightening of the steering gear mounting nuts and other steering components, and then make sure there is no play in the steering rod joints and the intermediate steering shaft.
To repair and adjust the steering mechanism, special tools and devices are required, so it is recommended to have the work done in a specialized workshop.

1. From inside the passenger compartment, unscrew the nut of the intermediate shaft cardan joint yoke clamp bolt. Note: there is a spring washer installed under the nut.

2. Remove the tie bolt.

3. Disconnect both outer ends from the pivot arms (more details see subsection 6.4.).

4. Loosen the mounting bolt and...

5....disconnect the ground wire from the steering gear housing.

6. Unscrew two nuts from the U-bolts securing the steering gear to the bracket on each side.

7. Please note: There is a flat washer under each nut.

8. Unscrew two nuts on each side of the steering gear bracket bolts to the subframe. Note that the nuts are self-locking.

9. Remove the bracket mounting bolts.

10. After lifting the steering gear, remove the bracket from underneath it.

11. Remove the drive pinion shaft from the intermediate shaft cardan joint fork and remove the steering gear through the left wheel well.

12. Remove the two steering gear support bushing brackets. If necessary, knock them off with a punch.

13. Remove the two steering gear support bushings. Replace any torn or loose bushings.

14. Before installing the steering gear, check that the U-bolts fit freely into the bracket holes. Bend the U-bolts if necessary.

15. Align the marks on the steering gear housing and boot.

16. Install the steering gear by inserting the drive gear shaft of the mechanism into the hole in the front shield.

17. Reinstall the bracket and insert the left rear bracket mounting bolt into the bracket and subframe holes, as this cannot be done once the shaft is connected to the fork. Then...

18....the assistant should insert the drive pinion shaft of the mechanism into the cardan joint fork of the intermediate shaft. Then install the steering gear in the reverse order of removal.
