Until 1983, a single-winding traction relay was installed on ST-221 starters. For a starter with such a relay, check the current consumption, which should not exceed 23 A.
1. Install between the limiting ring 51 (see Fig. Starter ST-221) and a 12.8 mm thick gasket with a gear and turn on the relay.
2. Check the relay turn-on voltage, which should be no more than 9 V at an ambient temperature of 20±5°C. If the voltage is higher, this indicates a relay or drive malfunction.
