Before inspecting the parts of the gearbox, wash and then check for damage on the gear teeth of the final drive and whether the contact spots on the working surfaces of the teeth are correctly located. If the teeth are damaged, replace the parts with new ones. If the engagement is incorrect, determine the cause.
Inspect the satellites and the surface of their axis, the necks of the gears of the axle shafts and their mounting holes in the differential box. Remove minor damage with 10-M40 grit sandpaper, and in case of serious damage, replace the parts with new ones.
Check up a condition of a surface of basic washers of gear wheels of semiaxes. If even slight damage is found, replace them. When replacing washers with new ones, they are selected by thickness.
Inspect the pinion gear and differential box bearings. They must be wear-free, with smooth working surfaces. At the slightest doubt about their performance, replace the bearings. Poor bearing condition can cause noise and seize teeth. Check for deformations or cracks on the crankcase and differential box. If necessary, replace them with new ones.
The dimensions of the main mating parts of the rear axle mechanisms and the limits of wear acceptable during the operation of the vehicle are given in Table. 7.
