Maintenance of the valve timing mechanism (VAZ-2109)

After running the first 2000 km it is necessary:

• tighten the camshaft bearing housing fastening nuts to a torque of 2.2 kgf·m in the order indicated on figure 25;
• adjust the valve timing clearances;
• check the engine for extraneous noises and knocks;
• check the tightness of the seals;
• check the condition of the camshaft drive belt and adjust its tension if necessary.

Every 15,000 km of mileage it is necessary:

• check the engine for extraneous noises and knocks;
• check the tightness of the seals;
• check the condition of the camshaft drive belt and adjust its tension if necessary.

Adjust the valve timing clearances every 30,000 km.

Replace the timing belt every 60,000 km.
