Checking the condition of the camshaft drive belt (VAZ-2109)

To prevent a sudden belt break, it is necessary to constantly monitor its condition. The surface of the toothed part of the belt should have a clear tooth profile, without folds, cracks, undercuts and delamination of the fabric from the rubber. There should be no delamination or fraying on the end surfaces, but a slight protrusion of the fringe of the fabric is allowed. The surface of the outer flat part should be smooth, without folds, cracks, depressions and bulges.

It is also necessary to check whether the belt is oiled due to oil leakage through the camshaft and crankshaft seals. This is absolutely unacceptable, since a belt soaked in oil can quickly fail. To replace damaged seals, you should immediately contact a service station.

The belt may also break if foreign objects get into the camshaft drive. Therefore, before closing the belt with a protective cover, you should make sure that there are no tools or "extra" parts left in the belt area.
