To perform repair work on replacing silent blocks in the front suspension transverse arm, you will need a universal cup puller (see point 15 "Special tools and fixtures").
Removing
1. Remove the transverse suspension arm from the car (see "Front suspension wishbone - removal and installation").
Silent block of the outer end of the transverse arm of the front suspension (linkage of the lever with a longitudinal stretching) consists of two hotel parts.
To remove the silent block of the outer end of the transverse arm:
2. We clamp the transverse arm of the front suspension in a vice and with a thin chisel we bend the edges of the outer metal ring of one of the halves of the silent block.
3. With a more powerful chisel, we press out part of the silent block.
4. In the same way, we press out the second part of the silent block.
To remove the silent block of the inner end of the front suspension transverse arm:
5. Cup universal puller or a piece of pipe and a bolt with a nut and washers of suitable diameter (suitable cylinder head bolt) press out the silent block (rubber-metal joint) fastening the lever to the body.
Installation
To install the silent block of the outer end of the lever:
1. Using a vice and a thrust plate, we press in parts of the new silent block.
2. Finally, we upset the parts of the silent block with hammer blows through a mandrel of a suitable diameter.
To install the silent block of the inner end of the lever:
3. We put the silent block on the fixture bolt and apply a soap solution to the outer surface of the silent block.
4. Wrapping the bolt nut, we press the silent block to the lever.
5. Using a slotted screwdriver, we fill the edge of the silent block into the hole in the transverse lever.
6. To facilitate the work, you can pull off the rubber bushing of the silent block with a clamp.
We completely press the silent block into the hole of the front suspension control arm.
