Installing the generator on the engine: 1 - generator; 2 - nut for fastening the generator to the tension bar; 3 - generator drive belt; 4 - tension bar; 5 - nut fastening the generator to the bracket.
You will need: Keys «at 17» and «at 19», wheel wrench, mounting blade.
If, during inspection of the belt, tears, fraying, or delamination of rubber are found, replace the belt. It can break at the most inopportune moment.
If there are traces of grease on the belt, replace it. Before installing a new belt, be sure to wipe all the pulleys driven by the belt with a rag soaked in gasoline.
Warnings:
- Insufficient belt tension impairs battery recharging and leads to increased belt wear.
- If the belt is too tight, the alternator bearings may fail.
- When turning the crankshaft by the pulley mounting bolt, the gearshift lever must be in the neutral position.
According to the manufacturer, the alternator drive belt should bend 10-15 mm at a force of 100 N (10 kgf).
Press your finger on the belt in the middle between the pulleys of the generator and the crankshaft. If the belt deflection differs from the nominal value, adjust its tension.
Loosen the nut securing the generator to the bracket and...
... nuts securing the generator to the tension bar.
Using a mounting spatula, move the generator away from the cylinder block to tension the belt or...
... bring the generator to the block to weaken it (put a rag under the mounting blade so as not to spoil the body finish).
Through the hole in the niche of the right wheel, use a wheelbrace to turn the crankshaft by the pulley mounting bolt two turns clockwise and check the belt tension again. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.
Tighten both alternator mounting nuts.
