Adjusting the alternator drive belt tension (VAZ-2109)

Normal deflection "A" (figure 99) the belt tension should be within 8...10 mm when pressed with a force of 10 kgf. To increase the belt tension: loosen nut 4 fastening the generator to the tension bar 3, move the generator away from the engine and tighten the nut. Turn the crankshaft two revolutions and check the belt tension.

It is necessary to avoid excessive belt tension, so as not to cause increased loads on the generator bearings, which can cause them to quickly fail.
