Camshaft drive (front camshaft drive belt cover removed): 1 - water pump toothed pulley; 2 - tension roller; 3 - toothed pulley of the camshaft; 4 - belt; 5 - generator drive pulley
You will need: 17 and 19 mm wrenches, a wheel wrench, two ∅ 4 mm drills.
Before starting work, set the gearshift lever to neutral and remove the front camshaft drive belt cover (see subsection 3.15).
Excessive belt tension will result in increased wear on the water pump bearings and tension roller.
If the belt tension is weak, the valve timing may be disrupted due to the belt jumping over the teeth of the camshaft pulley. In addition, a misalignment leads to increased belt wear.
Warning: Turn the crankshaft clockwise (in the direction of crankshaft rotation) only by the bolt that attaches the pulley to it. It is prohibited to turn the crankshaft by the camshaft pulley.
Recommendation: There is a special key for turning the tension roller. If you don't have one, you can use two suitable pins (for example, with drills), tightly fitting into the holes of the roller, and a screwdriver.
Turn the crankshaft with a wheel wrench using the generator drive pulley mounting bolt through the hole in the right wheel well (to make it easier to turn the shaft, you can remove the spark plugs).

Check the belt tension: its leading branch should turn 90° from the force of the fingers (1.5-2 kgf) applied in the middle between the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys.

If the tension is not as specified, loosen the tension roller mounting nut.

To tighten the belt, turn the tension roller counterclockwise (approximately 10-15°), to loosen - clockwise. If you do not have a special key, insert two drills into the roller holes...

... using a screwdriver, turn the roller in the appropriate direction and, holding the roller in this position, tighten the nut that secures it.

Turn the crankshaft two revolutions and check the alignment of the TDC marks (see subsection 3.15) and belt tension. Repeat adjustment if necessary. After adjustment, install the front cover.
