Front wheel brake: 1 - brake pads; 2 - brake hose; 3 - rubber hose holder; 4 - guide pads; 5 - brake disc; 6 - support
You will need:
- keys "at 12" And "at 17"
- jack
- wheel chocks
- screwdriver
- metal brush
Before starting work
Brake the vehicle with the parking brake and place wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
Remove the front wheel (see subsection 2.18.).
Clear the brake mechanism of dirt.
Pump out part of the fluid from the reservoir if the brake fluid level in the reservoir is at the mark before replacing the pads "MAX" or approaching it.
The minimum allowable thickness of the friction linings of 1 brake pads is 1.5 mm. If the compression springs 2 have lost elasticity, replace the pads.
Replace pads in the following cases:
- lining thickness less than 1.5 mm;
- the surface of the pads is oiled;
- pads are loosely connected to the base;
- linings have deep grooves and chips.
Attention! Loosen and tighten the wheel nuts only with the vehicle on the ground.
Attention! Do not use gasoline, diesel fuel or any other mineral solvents to clean the brakes.
Attention! The pads must be replaced in the brake mechanisms of both front wheels at the same time.
Attention! It is unacceptable to replace the inner and outer pads with each other, as well as between the left and right wheels. This can lead to uneven braking.
If for some reason you removed the front wheel, check the condition of the pads through the hole in the caliper housing. If the thickness of the friction linings is about 2 mm, replace the pads.
If the vehicle pulls to the side or a strange noise is heard when braking, remove the brake pads and check their condition.
1. Take out from an arm the rubber holder together with a hose.
2. Use a screwdriver to bend the antennae of the lock washers of the two caliper mounting bolts.
3. Loosen the lower caliper mounting bolt while holding the guide pin by the hex wrench.
4. Unscrew the upper caliper mounting bolt, holding the guide pin by the hexagon wrench.
5. Remove the bolt together with the lock plate.
6. Rotate the caliper down around the axis of the lower guide pin.
7. Remove the brake pads. After that, carefully, so as not to damage the protective cover of the cylinder, clean the parts of the brake mechanism from dirt and rust, especially the seats of the pads.
8. Before installing new pads, carefully press the piston into the cylinder with a screwdriver or pry bar through the old pads inserted into the caliper (folded together with friction linings inside).
9. Install the new pads exactly into the seats in the pad guide. Secure the caliper by securing the mounting bolts with lock plates and install the wheel. After placing the vehicle on the ground, press the brake pedal several times to set the piston to the working position. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and top up if necessary (see subsection 2.11.).
