Checking the condition and replacing the front wheel brake pads (VAZ-2109)

            0

Place the car on a level horizontal surface, apply the parking brake and remove the wheel. Through window A (figure 88) visually inspect the condition of the brake pads. If the lining thickness has decreased to 1.5 mm, replace the pads with new ones on both brake mechanisms simultaneously. To do this, bend the corner of the lock washer 7 from the edge of the lower bolt 6, unscrew it, holding the edge of the guide pin with a wrench. Then turn the caliper assembly with cylinder 5 relative to the other pin, remove the brake pad 9 from the piston side and lower the caliper to the working position. Carefully, so as not to damage the dust cap and prevent brake fluid from splashing out of the reservoir, move the piston through window A as far inside the cylinder as possible, pushing off the surface of the brake disc 8 with a screwdriver. Having lifted the caliper, replace the outer pad with a new one and lower the caliper to the working position. Once again move the piston inside the cylinder and, having lifted the caliper, replace the inner pad. Having lowered the caliper, tighten and lock bolt 6. (The threads of this bolt have a coating that prevents the guide pin from loosening on its own.)

If brake fluid was added to the reservoir during vehicle operation, then before pressing the piston, it is necessary to remove some of the brake fluid from the reservoir to prevent it from spilling out of the reservoir neck.

When replacing the pads, check the condition and fit of the piston protective caps and guide pin boots in the sockets. If necessary, replace them or ensure proper fit in the sockets.
