Removal the cylinder head on a car (VAZ-21051)

The cylinder head is removed from the engine on the car if it is not necessary to remove the engine itself to fix the malfunction or if it is only necessary to remove carbon deposits from the combustion chamber surfaces and valves. The cylinder head must be removed from the engine in the following order.

1. Drain the coolant from the radiator and cylinder block and remove the air filter.

2. Disconnect the wires from the battery, carburetor, spark plugs and coolant temperature gauge sensor.

3. Disconnect the throttle actuator rods from the intermediate lever on the cylinder head cover; disconnect the choke cable from the carburetor.

4. Disconnect the hose from the heater fluid supply pipe and the heater fluid outlet pipe mounting bracket from the outlet manifold.

5. Disconnect the hoses from the carburetor, intake manifold and from the outlet pipe of the cylinder head cooling jacket).

6. Disconnect the starter shield and the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.

Attention! It is better to leave the exhaust manifold and intake manifold with the carburetor on the head. They can be removed later when disassembling the cylinder head. Do not use household detergents. To avoid damage to the washer pump.


7. Turn the crankshaft until mark C is aligned (see Fig. Camshaft Drive Diagram) with the mark "D" on the middle protective cover, and the marks "F" on the camshaft pulley with the mark "E" on the cylinder head cover.

8. Remove the upper camshaft timing belt cover and the cylinder head cover.

9. Remove spring 3 of tension roller 1, loosen bracket mounting bolts 2, move it to the extreme left position and remove the belt from the camshaft pulley.

10. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the bearing housing together with the camshaft, seal holder and pulley.

11. Loosen the bolts securing the cylinder head to the block and remove the head with the gasket.
