car body type "sedan", metal, all-welded, load-bearing structure, four-door. The door hinges are located at the front. Door locks and safety locks. Door windows with two panes: the front doors have one pivoting pane. The front and rear windows have panoramic glass. The windshield is three-layer, polished; rear - polished, hardened. All safety glasses. The protruding parts of the interior are made safe (handles, levers, sun visors and other parts).
Body frame
All parts and components of the frame are mainly interconnected by resistance spot welding; heavily loaded parts are additionally welded by arc welding. Gas welded roof panel 14 with side panels 16
The body frame consists of the following main components: front end, floor with reinforcements and rear panel, sidewalls, rear fenders, roof with wind and rear window frames, front fenders with reinforcements.
The front end consists of a vertical front panel 9, an air intake box 10, mudguards 29 of the front fenders with front suspension struts 28, front spars, upper and lower front crossbars, front struts 2, headlight covers 5, bottom panel 3 of the front end and mudguards 1 and 4. K to the right mudguard 29 of the front wing, platform 8 is welded under the battery.
Body floor with amplifiers and rear panel includes front and rear floor panels, luggage compartment floor 23, spare wheel and fuel tank floors, rear panel 18. The floor panels are welded to the front and rear floor spars, trunk floor spars 21, central pillar connectors, cross members 19, 24, 25, cross bar bracket, internal rear wheel arches 22 and other details.
The sidewall 11 consists of a one-piece stamped panel, an outer arch of the rear wheel, a central pillar and amplifiers located along the contour of the sidewall. The right and left sidewalls are interconnected by a cross member 13 of the instrument panel and a rear shelf with braces.
The rear fenders 20 are welded to the sidewalls 11, the back panel 18, to the floor of the spare wheel or fuel tank. Amplifiers are welded to the rear fenders. The right wing has a fuel tank filler cap. The fixed hinge of the cover is attached to the wing with two screws. In the closed and open positions, the lid is fixed by a servo spring attached to the lid hinge.
The roof consists of a panel 14, roof side panels 16 welded together by gas welding, and roof reinforcements. A wind window frame 12 and a rear window frame are welded to the roof panel.
The front fenders are welded to the front panel 3, to the mudguards 29, the headlight covers 5 and the front struts of the sidewalls 11.
Hinged body units
Doors, hood, trunk lid are hung on the welded body. All these units consist of external and internal panels made of 0.7 mm thick steel and interconnected by bending the flanges of the external panels, followed by spot welding. To increase the rigidity of the hood and trunk lid, their outer and inner panels are additionally interconnected with glue, which hardens when the body paintwork dries. The hood is hung along the front edge of the body on hinges. The hood is attached to the hinges with bolts. Enlarged holes in the hinges for bolts allow adjustment of the position of the hood in the opening of the body. The trunk lid has hinges with a torsion mechanism that makes it easier to open and hold the lid in the open position. Enlarged holes in the hinges allow you to adjust the position of the trunk lid.
Door tops (window openings) made of steel profiled frames, which are welded to the inner panels of the doors. Door hinges allow adjusting the position of the doors in the opening in the vertical plane to ensure uniform clearances with the body along the upper and lower edges. So that the doors do not rest against the front end of the body pillars when opening, they have opening stops made of spring wire.
Bumpers with two buffers and side plates are installed on VAZ-21 cars, they are attached to the body using two brackets with four bolts. The brackets are sealed with rubber seals.
Body sealing
Sealing is achieved by various rubber seals, sealing mastics, rubber plugs for technological holes and careful fitting of mating parts.
The air intake box is sealed against smoky air from the engine compartment entering the passenger compartment with a rubber seal 42 installed on the upper flange of the box. The seal is fastened due to the elasticity of the metal perforated frame placed in the lower part of the seal.
The trunk lid in the opening is sealed with a seal 38 made of sponge rubber and installed on the flanges of the gutters along the contour of the opening. The design of the seal is similar to seal 42.
The seals 37 of the door openings are made of sponge rubber with a process, to which a plastic edge 36 is sewn with a metal frame 35, which secures the seal on the flanges of the door openings. Non-drying mastic 51-G-7 is applied under the sealant at the corners of the central pillars and door hinges.
The windows of the wind and rear windows are sealed with rubber seals 32, which do not require the use of sealing mastics. The lower seals 33 of the sliding door windows are made of plastic, the profile of which ensures easy and reliable installation. To reduce friction, pile is glued to the seals of the sliding windows. When water seeps under the seal 33, it flows down the door and then pours out through the drain holes.
