When the vacuum booster fails, the force on the brake pedal increases significantly, which negatively affects the car's handling. Fuel consumption also increases due to air being sucked into the engine cylinders.
1. With the engine not running, press the brake pedal 5-6 times.
2. Keeping the brake pedal depressed, start the engine. The brake pedal should move forward. If this does not happen, check the vacuum hose connection to the check valve and to the fitting on the intake pipe.
3. If necessary, tighten the hose clamp on the engine intake pipe.
4. If the hose is not tightly seated on the check valve, replace the hose. Check the operation of the booster again. If the pedal does not move forward, the brake booster is most likely faulty. Contact a car service center to repair it.
