Advice. A malfunction of the fuel gauge sensor is most often associated with wear on the contact part of its rheostat. This can be verified by measuring its electrical resistance with an ohmmeter while smoothly moving the lever with the float from one extreme position to another. The defective sensor must be replaced.
Removing
1. Remove the fuel module (see "Fuel module for 2111 and 2112 engines (1,5i) - removal and installation").
2. Press the latch (1) wire blocks (3) and disconnect the block from the terminals (2) on the cover of the fuel module.
3. Release the wire block retainer (1) and disconnect the block from the fuel pump (2). Loosen the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver (3) fixing the fuel gauge sensor.
4. Remove the pointer.
Installation
Install the new fuel gauge sensor in reverse order.
