You will need:
- candle key
- goatee
- round probe
- spark plug
Barbed candle key
Before starting work disconnect the wire from the terminal "–" battery.
Replace spark plugs every 30,000 km, even if they are still in working condition: old spark plugs can increase fuel consumption.
When preparing for winter operation, replace the spark plugs with new ones.
Regularly check the connections of the high-voltage wires to the spark plugs and the ignition coil. Keep high-voltage wires clean by periodically wiping them with a cloth. Contamination on wire insulation can cause current leakage.
Attention! When checking and replacing spark plugs, be careful: if the engine is hot, you can get burned.
Attention! Do not overtighten the spark plugs: the spark plug's ceramic insulator may crack, resulting in poor engine performance.
1. Remove tip from spark plug (don't pull on the wire).
2. Clean the spark plug and the area around it of dirt so that when the spark plug is turned out, dirt does not get into the cylinder.
3. Carefully remove the candle with the key and then...
Recommendation for operation 3: If the spark plug is difficult to turn out after the first pulling due to carbon deposits, do not apply much force so as not to damage the threads in the cylinder head. Slightly wrapping and unscrewing the candle, gradually turn it out of the head.
4....finally turn the spark plug out by hand.
5. Examine the candle. If the insulator has cracks, threads or electrodes are damaged, the spark plug must be replaced.
6. Light brown soot, evenly covering the bottom of the candle with a thin layer, does not affect the operation of the ignition system, and it can not be cleaned off.
7. The absence of carbon deposits on the candle indicates either the operation of the engine on a lean mixture, or an incorrectly set ignition timing, or a discrepancy between the brand of the candle and the type of engine.
8. Brilliant black soot indicates that oil has entered the engine cylinder. Such a candle must be cleaned.
9. Check the gap between the spark plug electrodes (only round probe). The gap should be 0.7–0.8 mm.
10. If the gap differs from the specified, adjust it by bending the side electrode.
11. Tighten the tip of the spark plug if it is loose on the threads.
12. Clean the oxidized contact in the tip of the high voltage wire. If necessary, adjust the contact so that it fits snugly on the tip of the candle.
13. Screw the spark plug into the cylinder block and tighten with a wrench. Install the tip on the candle until it stops. Check that it is tight.
