Car storage (VAZ-21011)

When operating, pay close attention to the storage conditions of the car, since with an annual mileage of 15 thousand km, the car is in motion for about an hour a day. The optimal conditions for storing the car are:
  • a canopy where the temperature and humidity correspond to the parameters of the environment, there is constant air movement and there is no direct exposure to solar radiation and precipitation;
  • heated room (individual garage) with a temperature of at least 5°C and a relative humidity of 50–70%, equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation.

If the room is heated (individual garage) has ineffective supply and exhaust ventilation, and the car is used in winter or is stored after washing without preliminary drying, then the destructive effects on protective and decorative coatings increase many times over.

When storing your car in winter under a canopy or in an unheated room, remove the battery and drain the fluid from the windshield washer reservoir.

When storing the car in a room where sunlight penetrates, cover the body and tires with a cover made of moisture-permeable material. The use of covers made of moisture-proof materials (tarpaulin, film, etc.), having no ventilation holes in the windshield and rear window area, contributes to the condensation of moisture on the body surface, which, if exposed for a long time, can lead to damage to the body paint.

If the car is stored in an open parking lot under a cover in winter, the cover should not be adjacent to the painted surfaces of the body, so as not to damage the paint (blistering, peeling). For normal ventilation of painted surfaces, place soft pads at least 20 mm high between the cover and the body.

Preparing a car for long-term storage

1. Wash the car and wipe the body dry. Remove corrosion. Paint the surface with damaged paint. Apply "Autopreservative" or "AV-70" car wax to the body.

2. Start and warm up the engine. Stop the engine, remove the spark plugs and pour 25–30 g of engine oil heated to 70–80°C into each cylinder, then turn the crankshaft 10–15 revolutions and screw in the spark plugs.

3. Disconnect the warm air intake hose from the air filter. Use oiled tape (paper or fabric) seal:
  • air intake openings of the air filter housing;
  • muffler outlet pipe outlet;
  • fuel tank vent tube hole.

4. To protect against dust, cover the engine with tarpaulin, film or oiled paper.

5. Place the vehicle on stands so that the wheels are raised off the supporting surface.

6. Cover the car with a cover.

7. Fully charge the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.

Car maintenance during storage (once every two months)

1. Remove the cover and inspect the car. Clean and paint over any corroded areas on the painted surface.

2. Remove the spark plugs, turn the crankshaft 2-3 turns and screw in the spark plugs.

3. Turn the steering wheel 1–1.5 turns in each direction. Operate (3–5 times) the brake and clutch pedals, the accelerator pedal and the parking brake.
