Rules for checking and operating the generator (VAZ-2105)

            0

Generator testing data:
  • Maximum output current at 13 V and rotor speed of 5000 min⁻¹, A — 45 (55*)
  • Adjustable voltage limits, V — 14.1±0.5

* For generator 37.3701.

When operating, servicing and repairing the generator, the following rules must be observed, violation of which may lead to damage to the voltage regulator or rectifier diodes:
  • the "-" terminal of the battery must always be connected to the case, "+" - connected to terminal 30 (8 in Fig. 226) of the generator. Erroneous reverse connection of the battery will immediately cause increased current through the generator rectifier block valves and their failure in operation;
  • it is not allowed to operate the generator with the battery disconnected from the terminal "30". This will cause short-term overvoltages on the terminal "30" of the generator, which can damage the voltage regulator and electronic devices in the vehicle's on-board network;
  • it is prohibited to check the generator's performance "for a spark" even by briefly connecting the "30" clamp of the generator to the housing. In this case, a significant current flows through the valves, and they break down. The generator can only be checked using an ammeter and voltmeter;
  • generator valves must not be tested with a voltage higher than 12 V or with a megohmmeter, as it has a voltage that is too high for the valves, and they will be broken during testing (a short circuit will occur);
  • the insulation resistance of the generator stator winding should be checked with increased voltage only on a bench and necessarily with the terminals of the phase windings disconnected from the valves;
  • it is prohibited to check the vehicle's electrical wiring with a megohmmeter or a lamp powered by a voltage greater than 12 V. If such a check is necessary, first disconnect the wires from all terminals of the generator and battery.
