Restoration of the underbody coating and wheel arches (VAZ-21051)

            0

During vehicle operation, the coating on the underbody is exposed to gravel, sand, salt, and moisture. As a result, the mastic and primer are damaged and worn away. The exposed metal is subject to corrosion.

At the automobile plant, polyvinyl chloride plastic compound of the Plastisol D-11A brand with a thickness of 1–1.2 mm was applied to the lower surface of the body base and side members for noise insulation and protection against corrosion and abrasive wear over epoxy primer EF-083.

1. If the D-11A plastisol coating is damaged without disturbing the primer layer, clean the damaged areas from dirt and apply plastisol to the dry surface using an airless spray or brush.

2. Dry the plastisol at 130°C for 30 minutes. It is allowed to apply the noise-proofing mastic BPM-1, which can dry under natural conditions.

3. Before restoring the coating, place the car on a lift, carefully inspect the underside of the body and identify coating defects.

4. Clean the underside of the car body from dirt, remove rust with a spatula, sandpaper or rust converter according to the instructions.

5. Blow compressed air over the underside of the car.

6. Place the car on a lift in the mastic application chamber and remove the wheels.

7. Cover the brake drums and discs with protective covers, insulate the driveshaft, mufflers, cables and other areas that cannot be treated with mastic with thick paper and adhesive tape.

8. Using a rag soaked in white spirit, degrease the areas stripped down to the metal.

9. Apply GF-073 primer to the cleaned areas using a spray or brush and leave for 5–10 minutes.

10. Then apply by spray or by hand (with a brush or spatula) bPM-1 mastic on defective areas with a layer of 1–1.5 mm. The overlap on the old coating layer should be minimal.

11. In the cold season, before using the mastic, keep it in a warm room until the temperature rises to at least 20°C. If the mastic thickens, dilute it with xylyl to 3%.

12. Clean the paintwork from mastic contamination with a rag soaked in white spirit.

13. Dry the mastic at a temperature of 100–110°C for 30 minutes or 18–20°C for at least 24 hours.
