Polishing the coating

To preserve the paintwork of the car body and keep it in good condition for a long time, it is necessary to select polishing agents that match the condition of the coating. In this case, it is necessary to follow the recommendations for their use. In the first 2-3 months of car operation, wash the car body coating only with cold water. To polish a new coating (up to 3 years), use non-abrasive polishing agents for new coatings. When operating a car in the 4th and 5th years, use car polishes for weathered coatings, which have a small amount of abrasive substances in their composition. After 5 years of intensive operation, use car polishes for old coatings.

To prevent the polish from drying out, polish the body in small sections manually with clean flannel. To eliminate minor defects in the paintwork, polishing pastes VAZ-1, -2 or polishing compound VAZ-03 can be used. Polish manually and mechanically with flannel or beaver wheels.

Before use, stir the paste. When thickened, dilute with water. After polishing, wipe the surface with a clean flannel.

Repainting the body with synthetic enamel

Wash the body with water and remove the old peeling coating from the defective areas with a spatula or brush. Wet sand the surfaces to be painted with 55S4-P sandpaper. If the coating is thin and has no mechanical damage, sand the surface down to the epoxy primer of the factory paint. If there is significant corrosion, clean the coating down to the metal. The same procedure is used if the surface was previously painted with nitro enamel.

Wash the body with water, blow it with compressed air and dry it. Then degrease the surfaces to be painted with white spirit or BR-1 gasoline solvent and coat the welds and joints of the replaced parts with D-4A sealing mastic. Remove excess mastic with a rag soaked in white spirit. Insulate surfaces not to be painted with thick paper and adhesive tape.

Apply GF-073 primer with a spray gun to the areas of the surface cleaned to the metal and let it sit for 5 minutes. The viscosity of the primer should be 22-24 s at 20°C according to the VZ-4 viscometer. If necessary, dilute the primer with xylene. Then apply EF-083 epoxy primer with a spray gun to the surfaces covered with GF-073 primer, as well as to the replaced body parts, and dry the body at 90°C for 60 minutes. Before applying, add NF-1 siccative (5-7% of the soil weight) to the EF-083 primer. The shelf life of the finished primer with a catalyst is no more than 7 hours. The viscosity of the primer should be 23-25 s at 20°C. The primer can be diluted with RE-11 B solvent or xylene.

Cool the body, wet sand with 55S4-P sandpaper, wash with water, blow with compressed air and dry. If necessary, fill uneven areas with MS-00-S filler no more than 0.3 mm thick. Dilute the thickened filler with xylene to a viscosity convenient for application. Dry the body for 30 minutes at 18-20°C. Sand the filled surfaces again, wash the body, blow with compressed air and dry. Insulate the unpainted surfaces of the body with thick paper, adhesive tape and install it in the paint booth.

Degrease the surfaces to be painted with white spirit. Open the doors, hood, tailgate and apply two coats of ML-197 enamel with an intermediate holding time of 7-10 minutes using a spray gun to the interior surfaces to be painted of the passenger compartment, doorways, end surfaces of doors, engine compartment and luggage compartment. Apply three coats of enamel to the outer surfaces of the body with an intermediate holding time of 7-10 minutes. Dry the coating at 90°C for 1 hour and cool under natural conditions.

Before using the enamel, add 4-5% of the DGU-7S catalyst or a 10% solution of maleic anhydride in ethyl acetate. The enamel viscosity should be 20 s at 20°C. Dilute the enamel with solvent R-197, followed by filtration through mesh No.014K.

If it is necessary to remove the old complex coating, use the SP-7 remover. Apply it with a brush 2-3 times depending on the thickness of the paint coating. The coating softening time with the remover is 30-40 minutes. Then remove the softened coating with a brush or spatula, wipe the surface with white spirit to remove the remaining remover, rinse thoroughly with water and dry the body.

Painting of individual parts

After replacing individual parts (wings, doors, etc.), and after straightening work on deformed parts, the entire outer surface of the part is painted. Before painting, newly installed parts are lightly sanded, after which epoxy primer EF-083 is applied to the entire surface.

Preparation for painting and enamel painting is performed using the car body repainting technology.
