Advice: When adjusting the longitudinal tilt angle of the steering axis at a service center, the longitudinal brace will be removed again, so it is better to replace the brace there, at the same time as the adjustment.
To carry out the work you will need an inspection pit or overpass.
Removal
1. Remove the transverse suspension arm (see "Transverse suspension arm - removal and installation").
2. To minimize the amount of caster angle adjustment loss when installing the old strut, count and record the number of adjusting washers located at the rear and front ends of the strut.
3. Hold the tensioner from turning with an open-end wrench by 24 mm, using a socket wrench of the same size with a long handle, unscrew the nut securing the front end of the longitudinal brace to the crossmember.
4. Remove the thrust washer from the tension rod and extract the front end of the tension rod from the rubber-metal hinge of the cross member.
5. Remove the adjusting washers from the tensioner.
Installation
Recommendation: After replacing the longitudinal tensioner, it is necessary to check the longitudinal tilt angle of the steering axis at a service center.
We install the longitudinal stretch in the reverse order.
The hole of the adjusting washer has a chamfer on one side. When installing the adjusting washers, the chamfer should be directed towards the bend of the longitudinal brace.
