Front Wheel Alignment Check (VAZ-2112)

To ensure correct rolling of the vehicle wheels, taking into account the operation of the suspension and steering, the front suspension elements must be installed in a certain position.

It is recommended to check and adjust the front wheel alignment angles in specialized technical centers that have the appropriate equipment.

Note: Front wheel alignment angles are specified in the section "Basic data for adjustments and control".


Front wheel camber angle - is the angle of inclination of the plane of rotation of the wheel relative to the vertical. Uneven camber angles of the front wheels cause the car to drift to the side when driving in a straight line. Large positive camber (when the top of the wheel protrudes outward) leads to accelerated wear of the outer part of the tire tread, and large negative camber - of the inner part of the tread (see "Hubs, disks and tires - technical condition check"). The front wheel camber angle is adjusted by the upper bolt securing the steering knuckle to the strut. The bolt has an eccentric head and a special washer.

Front wheel alignment - is the angle between the plane of rotation of the wheel and the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the car in the position of rectilinear movement. Toe-in is defined as the difference in the distances between the rims of the front wheels in millimeters (B-A, see fig). Misalignment of the front wheels worsens the vehicle's handling and directional stability and leads to intensive tire wear.

Longitudinal tilt of the pivot axis - is the angle between the front wheel pivot axis and the vertical in the plane parallel to the vehicle's centerline. Violation of the correct tilt angle of the front wheel pivot axis causes deterioration in vehicle controllability. With a large longitudinal tilt angle, the resistance to steering wheel rotation increases, and with a small angle, the stabilization of the front wheels in the straight-ahead direction worsens.
