To complete the work you will need:
- spring clamps;
- special devices for disassembling the suspension strut.
Disassembly
1. Remove the rack from the car (see "Front suspension strut - removal and installation").
2. Clamp the stand in a vice as shown in the photo.
Warning! Use caution! The compressed spring has great force and if the tie breaks, it can cause injury.
3. Install the tension springs on opposite sides and tighten the spring evenly, without distortions, until the load is removed from the upper cup of the spring.
4. Using a slotted screwdriver, remove the rubber plug from the hole in the upper support housing of the strut.
5. Install the device on the nut and the shock absorber rod.
Holding the key by 17 mm shock absorber rod from turning, with a key by 27 mm we unscrew its nut.
6. Remove the nut and washer.
7. Remove the upper support from the rack.
8. Remove the upper spring cup.
9. Remove the spring (without removing the tie from it).
10 Remove the compression stop and the shock absorber rod protective cover.
Assembly
1. Before assembling the rack, make sure the shock absorber is in good condition by manually extending and retracting the rod. If you feel dips, jerks, or hear extraneous sounds when moving the rod, replace the shock absorber.
2. Check the integrity and serviceability of all elements installed on the rack. Replace a torn or cracked shock absorber rod cover, damaged compression stroke buffer, cracked or weakened suspension spring.
Front suspension springs are divided into classes according to their rigidity: A and B. The spring class is indicated by paint on the outer side of one of its coils. Class A - yellow or white paint color; class B - green or blue.
Warning! Only springs of the same class must be installed in the front suspension.
Recommendation. Front suspension springs (as well as shock absorber struts) should be replaced as a set. Please note that the front suspension springs of cars with 8-valve and 16-valve engines are different. On cars with 2112 (1.5i 16V) and 21124 (1.6i 16V) engines, the springs have different markings - class A are marked in orange, and class B has no markings.
