Ignition switch (lock) (VAZ-2112)

In the power supply circuit of most of the electrical equipment of the car, voltage comes through the ignition switch. To increase the anti-theft properties of the car, the switch is combined with the lock, so this device is often called the ignition switch.

The lock body is attached to the steering column with four special bolts with breakaway heads. At a certain tightening torque, the heads break off, and after that it becomes impossible to unscrew the bolts with wrenches.

The ignition switch is additionally equipped with a steering shaft locking mechanism. After the key is removed from the lock, a spring-loaded latch is released. When attempting to turn the steering wheel, the latch fixes the steering shaft in a certain position.
