Heater
The fan is driven by a ME-255 DC electric motor with excitation from permanent magnets. When an additional resistor is connected to the electric motor power supply circuit, the armature shaft rotates at a reduced frequency. The resistor is secured with two spring washers in the heater fan casing. The resistor resistance value is 1.5 Ohm at 20°C.
It is recommended to replace a faulty electric motor with a new one. The only possible repair is to clean the collector. To disassemble the electric motor, unscrew the screws securing the cover and remove it. Then remove the lock washer from the armature shaft and remove the armature from the housing. Assembly is performed in the reverse order.
The technical condition check is similar to that described above for the windshield wiper motor.
Brief technical characteristics of the electric motor:
- Shaft rotation speed with impeller electric motor loaded at 12 V and temperature (25±10)°C, min⁻¹ — 3000±150
- Current consumption at the specified load and rotation speed, A, no more than - 4.5
Possible malfunctions of the heater fan electric motor, their causes and methods of elimination are given in Table 27.

Engine cooling system
To drive the engine cooling system fan, domestically produced electric motors of the ME-272 type or similar Yugoslavian production are installed. These are DC electric motors with excitation from permanent magnets. The electric motor connection diagram is shown in Figure 165. The electric motor is switched on by sensor 4 of the TM-108 type, which is screwed into the right radiator tank. The sensor contact closing temperature is (99±3)°C, and opening temperature is (94±3)°C. Auxiliary relay 3 is installed under the instrument panel on the left side. The relay characteristics are given in the "Lighting and signaling" subsection. The electric motor does not require maintenance, and in case of a malfunction it must be replaced with a new one.
Figure 165. Wiring diagram for the engine cooling system fan electric motor: 1 - ignition switch; 2 - fuse box; 3 — electric motor start relay; 4 — electric motor start sensor; 5 — fan electric motor.
Brief technical characteristics of the electric motor:
- Nominal shaft speed when the electric motor is loaded with an impeller, min⁻¹ — 2600±100
- Current consumption at the specified load and rotation speed, A, no more than - 14
