Removal and installation the muffler (VAZ-1111)

The mufflers are removed with the vehicle raised and braked with the parking brake. The wire is disconnected from the negative terminal of the battery. The air filter is removed (see section. "Air filter"). Remove the vehicle's steering gear (see section "Steering gear"). Unscrew the bolts of the exhaust pipe flange 7 (figure 28), remove from cushion 8 and disconnect it from main muffler 6. Unscrew flange connection bolts 4, remove mufflers from suspensions and disconnect them from inlet pipe 1. To remove inlet pipes 1, unscrew nuts securing to bracket 2, remove bracket cover 3, unscrew nuts securing pipe to cylinder head and remove it from studs.



The installation of the mufflers is carried out in the reverse order.

On the first production cars, the pipes and mufflers were connected using clamps; mufflers were produced (main 6 and additional 5) separate units. Their removal and installation are somewhat different from those described above. To remove the main muffler, place stands under the rear suspension arms in the spring support area. Lower the car until the springs begin to compress. Remove the luggage compartment shelf, fold the rear seat back forward, unscrew the rear shock absorber rod mounting nuts and lift the car until the rear suspension springs are released. Loosen the mounting clamps, remove the exhaust pipe and main muffler from the suspensions and remove them separately.

Install in reverse order. The mounting clamps are installed with the connector: at the exhaust pipe to the right in the direction of the car, the main muffler - down, the additional muffler with the inlet pipe - also down.
