Removal
Install lever 1 (see figure 112) of the parking brake to the extreme lower position, disconnect the ends of the cables 10 from the levers 13 of the manual drive of the shoes (see section. "Rear wheel brake mechanism") and from equalizer 6, for which purpose lock nut 9 and adjusting nut 8 are unscrewed from rod 5, then washer 7 and equalizer 6 are removed. Having removed cotter pin and axle 12, washer 14 is removed, cable tip is disconnected from parking brake lever 13 and shoe expansion bar 15. Nuts securing parking brake lever bracket to body floor are unscrewed and lever 1 is removed together with bracket.
Installation
Install the parking brake components in the reverse order and then adjust them (see section. "Adjusting the parking brake"). When installing, lubricate the parking brake lever axle, front and rear cable ends and connecting pin 2 of the rod with Litol-24 grease.
Checking the details
Carefully check the condition of the parking brake components. If a break, fraying of the cable wires, poor fastening of the tips on it or damage to the sheath 11 are detected, the cable is replaced with a new one. Make sure that the teeth of the sector and the latches are not damaged and the lever is securely fixed in the specified position, and also moves easily up and down. Check the condition of the bracket 4 and the reliability of fixing the finger 2, as well as the condition of the cover 3. Replace damaged parts.
