- with the shock absorber in a vertical position (with the stem up) perform several full stretching-compression strokes, after which the shock absorber rod should move without dips or jamming. Rebound force (stretching) should be greater than during compression. There should be no knocking or other noises, as well as fluid leakage. If the above defects are detected, the shock absorbers are repaired or replaced;
- make sure that the rubber bushings of the lower shock absorber lugs are in good condition; if necessary, replace them using tool 67.7823.9539 (mandrel ∅ 28 mm and conical sleeve);
- check the condition of the rubber cushions 6 (see figure 99) rod mounts; replace them if they are destroyed or damaged;
- check the condition of the compression stroke buffer and the protective rod cover. If the cover is damaged and does not provide protection for the rod from direct dirt, replace it. Replace the compression stroke buffer if it is destroyed or damaged.
A more precise check of the condition and performance of the shock absorber is carried out on a dynamometer stand, as indicated in Chapter 3 (Sec. "Testing the telescopic strut and shock absorber of the rear suspension on the stand").
