Remove the parking brake cable assembly, for which:
- disconnect the cable mount to the body and to the suspension arms;
- remove brake drums;
- disconnect the cable ends from the brake shoe manual drive levers, and the flanges of the casing ends from the brake shields.
Disconnect the brake hoses from the brake system pipes, taking measures to prevent leakage of brake fluid. Disconnect the elastic lever of the rear brake pressure regulator drive from the bracket of the longitudinal suspension arm, removing the lock washer and then the earring from the axle.
Having installed supports under the suspension arm brackets, lower the car. Unscrew the nuts securing the shock absorbers to the body and remove washer 3 (see figure 99) and rubber cushions 6. Place stops under the front wheels of the car and, having raised the rear of the car, remove the springs, protective rod covers and compression buffers.
Disconnect the suspension arm brackets from the body side members and remove the rear suspension beam assembly with the shock absorbers. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the suspension arms. If it is necessary to replace the brake shield or wheel hub, unscrew bolts 10 securing the wheel hub axle and brake shield to the suspension arm flange and remove the shield assembly with the brake shoes, and axle 14 assembly with hub 13 and bearing 12. It is not recommended to press the hub off the axle bearing unless necessary, as this may damage the bearing. If it is necessary to replace the bearing, first press out axle 14 of the hub. In this case, the inner half of the inner bearing may remain on the axle. It is removed with a universal puller, using special chamfers on the axle. Then remove retaining ring 16 and press out bearing 12, applying a load to the inner ring of the bearing. Before pressing out the bearing, thoroughly clean the internal cavity, especially at the bearing outlet, to prevent chipping of the hub edge.
If the rubber-metal hinges of the suspension arms are worn or damaged, unscrew the nuts from the bolts and separate the brackets and suspension arms. Using tool 67.7823.9537 (mandrel ∅ 46 mm), press the rubber-metal hinges out of the arm bushings.
