Remove the parking brake cable assembly, for which:
- disconnect the cable mount to the body and to the suspension arms;
- remove the brake drums;
- disconnect the cable tips from the levers of the manual drive of the brake shoes, and the flanges of the shell tips from the brake shields.
Disconnect the brake hoses from the pipelines of the brake system, taking measures to prevent leakage of brake fluid. Disconnect the elastic lever of the rear brake pressure regulator drive from the bracket of the trailing arm of the suspension by removing the lock washer, and then the earring from the axle.
Having installed stands under the brackets of the suspension arms, lower the car. Unscrew the nuts securing the shock absorbers to the body and remove the washer 3 (see fig. 99) and rubber cushions 6. Install stops under the front wheels of the car and, having raised the rear of the car, remove the springs, protective covers of the rods and the compression stroke buffer.
Disconnect the suspension arm brackets from the body side members and remove the rear suspension beam assembly with shock absorbers. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the suspension arms. If it is necessary to replace the brake shield or wheel hub, unscrew the bolts 10 for fastening the axle of the wheel hub and the brake shield to the flange of the suspension arm and remove the shield assembly with the brake shoes, and the axle 14 is assembled with the hub 13 and the bearing 12. Unnecessarily, it is not recommended to press the hub with axle bearing, as this may damage the bearing. If there is a need to replace the bearing, the axle 14 of the hub is initially pressed out. In this case, the inner half of the inner bearing may remain on the axle. It is removed with a universal puller using special flats on the axle. Then the circlip 16 is removed and the bearing 12 is pressed out, applying a load to the inner ring of the bearing. Before pressing out the bearing, the internal cavity is thoroughly cleaned, especially at the bearing outlet, in order to prevent chipping of the hub edge.
If the rubber-metal hinges of the suspension arms are worn or damaged, the nuts are unscrewed from the bolts and the brackets and suspension arms are separated. Tool 67.7823.9537 (mandrel ∅ 46 mm) rubber-metal hinges are pressed out of the bushings of the levers.
