Features of the windshield wiper device (VAZ-2108)

The wiper connection diagram is shown in Figure 150. Windscreen wipers can be either domestically produced or manufactured in Hungary. They are interchangeable in terms of connection and mounting dimensions. Gearmotors are also interchangeable (gearboxes with electric motors) of these cleaners, although they have some differences in design. The cleaner has three operating modes. 1st and 2nd mode - with continuous movement of the brushes (but at different speeds), and the 3rd mode is with intermittent movement of the brushes.

The wiper motor is a permanent magnet-excited, three-brush motor with two rotation speeds. Low rotation speed is provided by applying voltage to oppositely located brushes, and high speed is provided by applying voltage to a brush offset from the axis of symmetry of the electric motor. To protect the electric motor from overloads when the brushes freeze to the glass or there is high resistance to their movement, a thermal bimetallic fuse is installed in the wiper. In VNR-made gear motors, the fuse is installed under the gear motor cover on the limit switch panel, and in domestic gear motors, the fuse is located on the wiper drive bracket.



The intermittent operation of the wiper is provided by an electronic relay type 52.3747, installed in the mounting block. This relay also switches on the wiper (low speed) when the windshield washer is turned on. Brief technical characteristics of the wiper:

The rotation frequency of the gear motor shaft at a supply voltage of 14 V, a load torque of 0.15 kgf·m and an ambient temperature of (25±10)°C, rpm:
  • at low speed - 30-40
  • at high speed - 55-70

Current consumption at load moment of 0.15 kgf·m, A, no more than:
  • at low speed - 3.5
  • at high speed - 5

Note: Some gearboxes may have higher rotation speeds.
