Windshield wiper gear motor repair (VAZ-2108)

To disassemble the gear motor, unscrew the screws securing the gearbox cover and remove it together with the limit switch panel. Then unscrew the screws securing the gearbox housing to the electric motor housing and disconnect them. Remove the electric motor anchor. To remove the gearbox pinion, unscrew the crank mounting nut, remove the locking ring from the axle and remove the axle with the pinion and washers from the housing.

The method of disassembling VNR gear motors is similar to that described above for domestic gear motors. Only when disassembling it is necessary to keep in mind that the front bearing of the anchor shaft is pressed into the cover with tension. Therefore, it is not recommended to disconnect the anchor of the electric motor from the cover to clean the collector.

After disassembly, blow out the internal cavities of the electric motor with compressed air to remove carbon dust deposits and check the technical condition of the gear motor parts. The brushes should move freely in the brush holders without jamming, and the springs should reliably press the brushes to the commutator. The latter is cleaned with sandpaper of grain size 10 - M40, and then wiped with a clean rag lightly greased with technical petroleum jelly. If the commutator is badly burnt or worn out, it is better to replace the gear motor with a new one. Check for signs of jamming on the journals of the anchor shaft. If necessary, clean them with the same sandpaper.

The gearmotor assembly is performed in the reverse order of disassembly. During assembly, the brushes are moved away from the collector so as not to break them or damage their edges, and the anchor is inserted into the housing with special care, avoiding impacts on the poles so as not to break them. After assembly, it is recommended to tap the electric motor housing with a wooden hammer to center the bearings, and then test it on the stand. When installing the crank, it is necessary to position it so that in the final position it is parallel to the short rod of the wiper and directed towards the electric motor.
