Valve lifter with shim installed.
The position of the cams of the first cylinder when installing the camshaft on the head supports.
Attention! Before installing the camshaft, place wooden pads under the block head to avoid damaging the valves.
Attention! Intake pipe and exhaust manifold gaskets are available as spare parts and are made of different material thicknesses, so when installing new gaskets, make sure they are of the same thickness.
Attention! Do not overtighten the spark plugs as cracks may form in the spark plug insulator. Tightening torque of candles 31-39 Nm (3.1-3.9 kgf·m).
1. Install the support washer (plate) valve springs.
2. Press the valve stem seal onto the valve guide using a mandrel (frame not shown in photo).
3. Lubricate the valve stem with engine oil and insert it into the corresponding cylinder guide (according to the marks made during disassembly).
4. Place a suitable stop under the valve.
5. Turn the block head over and insert the inner and outer valve springs.
6. Install the valve spring plate onto the springs.
7. Install the valve spring compressor.
8. For ease of installation, glue a cracker with grease to a thin screwdriver. Compress the valve springs with a tool to release the keyhole grooves on the valve stem. Insert the cracker into the grooves.
9. In the same way, insert the second cracker and, gradually loosening the pressure on the tool handle, decompress the valve springs so that the crackers enter the hole in the valve spring plate. Remove the fixture. Install the rest of the valves in the same way.
10. Tap with a hammer through the metal rod on the ends of the rods of each of the valves so that the crackers fall into place.
11. Insert the shims into the tappets according to the marks made during disassembly. The washers are inserted into the pusher with the side where the value of the washer thickness is engraved.
12. Lubricate with engine oil and install the tappets in the appropriate cylinders (according to the marks made during disassembly).
13. Lubricate the camshaft bearings in the head of the block and the adjusting washers of the tappets with engine oil (see note).
Note. Lubricate all bearings with engine oil before installing the camshaft.
14. Install the camshaft on the supports so that both cams of the first cylinder are pointing up. In this case, the fuel pump drive cam must be on the side of the ignition distributor mounting studs.
15. Lubricate the camshaft journals and cams with engine oil.
16. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the surface of the head mating with the bearing housings in the area of the extreme camshaft bearings.
17. Lubricate the camshaft bearings in the bearing housings with engine oil.
18. Install the bearing housings on the head of the block and tighten the nuts of their fastening in the specified order to a torque of 18.7-23.0 N·m (1.87-2.30 kgf·m).
1 - the outer side of the stuffing box
2 - working edge of the stuffing box
3 – a neck of a camshaft
19. Lubricate the seal seat in the block head and on the camshaft with engine oil.
20. The camshaft oil seal is installed using a special mandrel. In the absence of a mandrel, put the oil seal on the camshaft to the seat on the shaft. Then, with a pointed soft wood stick, carefully tuck the seal lip onto the shaft journal.
21. Carefully push the seal in until it stops.
22. Install the tension roller on the stud and screw the fastening nut without tightening it.
23. Screw in the coolant temperature sensor.
24. Install the intake pipe and exhaust manifold seals (see warning).
25. Install the intake pipe on the studs.
26. Install the exhaust manifold onto the studs.
27. Tighten the nine nuts securing the intake pipe and exhaust manifold to a torque of 21-26 Nm (2.1-2.6 kgf·m).
28. Install the warm air intake pipe and the eye on the studs.
29. Tighten the nut securing the pipe and eye.
30. Tighten the two remaining fitting nuts.
31. Wrap the gauge of a control lamp of emergency oil pressure.
32. Install the carburetor heat shield onto the studs and tighten the two nuts securing it.
33. Tighten the nut securing the shield to the fitting.
34. Close the spark plugs.
35. Install the carburetor gaskets.
36. Install the carburetor on the studs and tighten the four nuts of its fastening with a torque of 13-16 N·m (1.3-1.6 kgf·m).
37. Tighten the screw securing the carburetor heating fitting.
