Removing
1. Remove the steering column assembly (see "Steering column assembly - removal, installation, replacement").
2. Install the steering column in a vise.
3. With a 13 mm open-end wrench, holding the head of the coupling bolt of the cross flange, unscrew its nut with a 13 mm socket wrench.
4. We take out the coupling bolt and remove the flange of the cross of the intermediate steering shaft from the splines of the upper shaft.
5. Remove the thrust sleeve.
6. In order to set the steering shaft to its previous position during pressing, mark the position of the lower end of the steering shaft on the bracket with a marker.
7. Insert the key into the ignition lock and turn it to the position «I». In this position, the anti-theft lock retracts into the ignition lock housing and stops holding the steering shaft from turning.
Warning. Attempting to press out the steering shaft with the anti-theft device on will result in its breakdown.
8. With a hammer, through a soft metal drift or a wooden block, we press out the steering shaft from the bracket pipe in the direction of the steering wheel mounting.
9. We remove the steering shaft from the steering column pipe together with the upper bearing.
10. We rest the steering shaft with the upper end into the wooden gasket. With light hammer blows on the jaws of the pliers, we compress the bearing from the steering shaft.
Warning. To avoid damaging the surface of the steering shaft when removing the bearing, do not squeeze the pliers.
11. Both steering shaft bearings are mounted on plastic bushings, oriented with the wide side towards the thickening in the center of the steering shaft.
12. With a hammer through a drift, (you can use a suitable size head with an extension) We press out the lower bearing of the steering shaft from the bracket tube.
Installation
1. With a mandrel or a head of a suitable diameter with an extension, we press the lower steering shaft bearing into the pipe until it stops with the wide side of the plastic sleeve up.
Warning. When pressing the mandrel or head, select such a diameter that it rests on the outer ring of the bearing.
2. We insert the upper steering shaft into the bracket tube and press the steering shaft into the lower bearing until it stops.
3. We put on the upper end of the steering shaft the upper bearing with the wide side of the plastic sleeve down.
4. Having rested the beard on the outer ring of the bearing, we press it into the pipe until it stops.
5. We make sure that the lower end of the steering shaft is opposite the previously applied mark on the bracket
6. We check the operation of the anti-theft device of the ignition switch.
7. If necessary, light hammer blows through the wooden spacer at the ends of the steering shaft (at this time the lock must be open) we move it in the steering column tube, achieving its easy blocking and release with an anti-theft device.
8. We carry out further assembly and installation of the steering column on the car in the reverse order of removal.
