The timing belt transmits rotation from the crankshaft to the camshaft for timely intake of the combustible mixture and timely release of exhaust gases. It is used to transmit power to the water pump. On VAZ-2110 and VAZ-2111 engines, a break or slipping of the belt does not lead to sad consequences. If the toothed belt of the 16-valve VAZ-2112 engine breaks, the pistons can hit the valves. In this case, car repairs will be significant. In order to regularly monitor the condition of the belt, the designers came up with a special window in the casing. When removing the casing, you can check not only the condition, but also the tension. The operating instructions describe how to check the tension. To avoid problems with the timing belt, you need to monitor not only its condition, but also the conditions in which it operates. It is harmful for oil to get through both the camshaft and crankshaft seals; but also when the oil pump cover bolts are loosened due to a poor-quality gasket between the cover and the housing, oil may also get on the belt. There should be no cuts, missing teeth, or abrasions on the belt.

For automobile toothed belts, 4 tooth pitches are provided, for engines of the "tenth" model - 3.8 inches. There are also more than 30 width sizes, and exact compliance with the manufacturer's requirements must be mandatory. Of course, the number of teeth is also of significant importance. Belts also differ in the profile of the teeth, there can be more than 10 of them. Belts for VAZ-2110 and VAZ-2111 engines have semicircular teeth, and for VAZ-2112 semicircular teeth - high profile.



Belt designations:

• For VAZ-2110 VAZ-2111 — 58111X19, the first two digits 58 are the semicircular profile number, 111 is the number of teeth, 19 is the width.
• For VAZ-2112 - 40934X1HSN, 40 - high profile, HSN - the material from which the belt is made.
