Front wheel drive: 1 - internal ball joint; 2 – a protective cover of the internal hinge; 3 - drive shaft; 4 - protective cover of the outer hinge; 5 - outer ball joint
You will need:
- clamp pliers
- punch
- hammer
- screwdriver
- wooden spacer
Clamp pliers
Remove the front wheel drive from the car (see subsection 11.3.1.).
Inner joint replacement shown. The outer hinge is replaced in the same way.
Attention! Be sure to replace any torn, cracked, or loose protective covers. If the mounting clamps rotate on the cover, they need to be replaced.
Recommendation. Tighten the clamps with special pliers. SHRUS-4 grease must be laid in the hinge in the amount: for the outer one - 30 cm3; for internal - 60 cm3.
1. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise and remove the outer collar of the inner joint boot.
2. Remove the inner collar of the inner hinge boot.
3. Remove the protective cover from the hinge housing and...
4....turn it inside out.
5. Using a drift, knock the inner joint off the shaft by applying pressure to the joint race.
6. Remove the defective protective cover from the shaft.
7. The manufacturer recommends replacing the pivot lock ring on the drive shaft regardless of its condition.
8. Clean the splines of old grease and dirt.
9. Replace defective boot clamps. It is recommended to replace the clamps every time after removal. Do not install clamps of a different design.
10. Put the protective cover on the shaft and turn it inside out.
11. Check for grease in the new joint. If it seems to you that there is not enough lubrication, add - extra lubrication will not hurt.
12. Lubricate the retaining ring with grease and center it on the shaft so that the ring is not damaged when the pivot is installed.
13. Insert the shaft into the hinge and with light hammer blows through the wooden spacer on the outer end of the shank along its axis, move the hinge until it is fixed on the shaft with a locking ring. When installing the hinge, make sure that dirt does not get into it.
14. Check up smoothness of movement of the hinge, having shaken it in different directions.
15. Install the small seat belt of the protective boot on the seat on the shaft, install the clamp and carefully tighten it using special pliers.
16. Install the protective cover on the hinge body and wring out the edge of the cover with a screwdriver so that the air straightens the cover (Equalized pressure inside and outside the case), install the clamp and carefully tighten it using special pliers.
17. Check the tightness of the belts of the cover and the reliability of the fastening of the clamps. The cover must not rotate on the shaft and hinge, and the clamps - on the cover. Otherwise, replace the clamps.
