Note. If during operation, when turning the car, knocks are heard in the wheel drive, check the CV joints. Rock the drive shaft by hand. If there is a backlash or the mudguards are torn, the CV joint must be replaced. There is practically no point in disassembling the hinge: with a torn cover, the dirt that got into the hinge has already rendered the CV joint parts unusable. Hinge parts cannot be replaced individually.
1. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise.
2. Remove the inner collar of the inner CV joint.
3. Remove the outer collar of the inner CV joint.
4. Slide the dust cover over the shaft and turn it inside out.
5. Using a drift, knock the inner CV joint off the shaft, applying force to the hinge cage.
6. Remove the outer collar of the outer hinge.
7. Remove the inner collar of the outer hinge.
8. Slide the dust cover over the shaft and turn it inside out.
9. Using a drift, knock the outer CV joint off the shaft, applying force to the hinge cage.
Install the CV joints on the shaft in reverse order, taking into account the following:
- Remember that the right drive shaft is longer than the left one.
- Check the presence of grease in the new CV joints. SHRUS-4 grease in the amount of 40 cm should be laid in the outer hinges3, and in the internal - 80 cm3. If it seems to you that it is not enough, add more - extra lubrication will not hurt.
Warnings!
- When installing CV joints, make sure that dirt does not get into them.
- Clamps of mudguards are disposable: be sure to replace them when replacing CV joints. Do not install clamps of a different design.
10. At the end of the shaft where the inner CV joint is installed, a plastic plug must be installed.
11. To equalize the air pressure inside the cover and outside, wring out its edge with a screwdriver.
12. When installing the cover of the inner CV joint, keep the size from the end of the toe of the CV joint to the small edge of the dirt-proof cover, equal to 210 mm.
13. Tighten the clamps carefully with special pliers.
