Having unscrewed the nut securing the steering knuckle 4 (Fig. 129) and having removed the spring washer, remove the knuckle using the puller A.47043 (Fig. 130). Having unscrewed the mounting bolts, remove the cover 5 (see fig. 125) together with the adjusting screw 2, adjusting plate 1, lock washer and lock nut 3. Remove shaft 11 of the pitman arm from the crankcase 7, assembled with roller 12.


Having unscrewed the fastening bolts, remove the cover 17 of the worm shaft thrust bearing together with the adjusting linings 16. With the worm shaft 13, push the outer ring of the bearing 15 out of the crankcase and take out the shaft together with the bearing separators. Remove the seal 18 of the worm shaft and the seal 9 of the pitman shaft.
The outer ring of the upper bearing is pressed out using mandrel 67.7853.9541 (Fig. 131). In this case, the removable attachment on the mandrel handle is placed with the flange facing backwards.

Assembly is performed on bracket A.74076/R in the reverse order of disassembly, taking into account the following:
- the outer ring of the upper worm bearing is pressed in with the 67.7853.9541 mandrel, with the nozzle on the mandrel handle facing the other way;
- after installing worm 1 (Fig. 132) in the steering gear housing and securing the lower cover, check the friction torque of the worm shaft using dynamometer 02.7812.9501 (5) and head A.95697/5 (2); it should be within 2-5 kgf cm. If the friction moment is less than specified, reduce the thickness of the adjusting linings, and if it is more, increase it;
- having installed the bipod shaft, make sure that there is no gap in the engagement of the roller with the worm in the positions of the worm shaft turned to the right and left by 30° from the neutral position of the bipod. Any possible gap is eliminated with the adjusting screw 2 (see fig. 125) and tighten the lock nut 3;
- after adjusting the clearance in the engagement of the roller and worm, the friction moment of the worm is checked with a dynamometer, which should be equal to 9-12 kgf cm when the worm shaft is turned 30° both to the left and to the right from the middle position and decrease smoothly to 7 kgf cm when turning from an angle of 30° to the stop.

Upon completion of assembly, check the angles of rotation of the bipod from the neutral position, which should be 32°10'±1° both to the left and to the right until the bipod rests against the bolt heads, then pour 0.215 l of oil into the crankcase.
