- whether there are any signs of wear, jamming, dents or scratches on the working surfaces of the roller and worm. Worn and damaged parts are replaced;
- gap between the bushings and the bipod shaft. If it is more than specified in tab. 18, then the bushings are replaced;
- ease of rotation of the bipod shaft roller and worm bearings. The latter should rotate freely, without jamming, and there should be no visible wear and damage on the surface of the rings and balls;
- runout of the bearing journal of the steering shaft relative to the average diameter of the splined hole of the shaft tip. To do this, a special mandrel is put on the lower end of the shaft, which is mounted on a prism. When turning the mandrel on the prism, the runout of the support neck should not exceed 3 mm. If the shaft is deformed, then it is straightened on a manual press;
- axial clearance between the head of the adjusting screw 2 (see fig. 125) and the groove of the shaft 11 bipod. The gap should not exceed 0.05 mm. If it is larger, replace the adjusting plate 1 with a thicker plate.
