Headlights
On cars 2101 and 2102, as well as on 21011 produced before 1980, the headlights are turned on by switch 34 (see fig. 150), located on the steering column, when the external lighting switch 32 is on.
On 21011 cars produced since 1980 and on 21013, the headlights are switched on by the same switches, but through auxiliary relays 18 and 18a (see fig. 151).
On cars 2101, 2102 and 21021 two identical headlights of the FG140 type are installed, and on cars 21011 and 21013 - two headlights of the FG140B type. They differ in that the FG140B headlight has a parking light bulb, and the FG 140 headlight does not have such a bulb.
The headlight reflector together with the glass diffuser and the two-filament lamp form the so-called optical element. The system of lenses and prisms on the inside of the diffuser and the design of the lamp provide a narrow elliptical beam of high beam and a beam of low beam limited at the top, which does not blind oncoming drivers.

The optical element is fixed in the headlight housing with two screws and a spring. By rotating the screws, you can change the position of the optical element and thereby adjust the direction of the light beam of the headlight.
Some cars may be equipped with special headlights with halogen lamps, which provide a brighter beam of light. Halogen lamps heat up to high temperatures, so the reflector mirror coating of such headlights is made of heat-resistant materials. It is not allowed to insert halogen lamps into regular headlights, as this will damage the reflector mirror coating.
When replacing halogen lamps, do not touch the bulb with your fingers, as unnoticeable grease stains will reduce the service life of the lamps. It is recommended to use cotton gloves or a napkin. If there is any doubt about the cleanliness of the bulb, it should be wiped with alcohol.
Outdoor lighting
You can see the wiring diagram for the external lighting of 2101 vehicles at fig. 150. On cars 21011 and 21013 the diagram differs only in that the front side light bulbs are not in the side lights (as in 2101), and in the headlights. On cars 2102 and 21021 the peculiarity of the scheme is that in the license plate light there is only one lamp instead of two, as on other cars.
On all vehicles, the external lighting is turned on by a switch located on the instrument panel - when the key in the ignition switch is turned to the "Ignition" or "Parking" position.
Direction indicators
The diagram for switching on the direction indicators can be found in the electrical equipment diagram for the 2101 vehicle (see fig. 150). The indicators are switched on by switch 33, located on the steering column. Flashing of the lamps is provided by relay-interrupter 24 PC491, installed behind the instrument cluster.
The operation of the direction indicators is controlled by lamp 48, located in the instrument cluster. This lamp flashes in time with the direction indicator lamps. If the front or rear direction indicator lamp burns out, the control lamp will not turn on and the flashing frequency of the direction indicator lamps will decrease.
