After the car is parked outside in winter, it is necessary to check the condition of the rubber protective covers of the ball bearings and steering rod pins, since only a good condition of the covers is a guarantee of the longevity of the articulated joints. It is very important to make sure that the rubber hoses of the brake system are in good condition. Although the frost resistance of hoses is high, however, time and temperature changes can lead to the formation of cracks, especially near fittings. Naturally, hoses with cracks should be replaced.
Then you should check if the systems are filled with operating materials (liquids and oils) in accordance with the instructions. It is advisable, having unscrewed the candles, to turn the crankshaft a few turns. This simple operation «wake up» details of mechanisms and engine systems from «hibernation».
Remember that when setting up a car for a winter holiday, you used up gasoline to the last drop. Fill it up again and use the manual drive of the fuel pump to pump fuel into the carburetor. After pulling the choke rod to failure and pressing the clutch pedal, start the engine.
It happens that even a well-warmed engine cannot «move» car from the spot. In most cases, the cause is the rear brake pads. The parking brake was on and the pads pressed against the drums. You will have to remove the drums and release the pads. In this case, you will have to use a hammer and a wooden gasket. By tapping the drum through it, you will move it from its place.
Another surprise may lie in wait for you. You will not be able to turn on the gear, or rather, you will not be able to turn off the clutch due to the fact that its driven disk is firmly stuck to the flywheel. How to be? There are several ways to troubleshoot this issue. If the parking brake is applied, use it to fix the rear wheels, ask the assistant to squeeze (all the way) clutch pedal and crank, try to turn the crankshaft.
You can try to release the driven disk while the engine is running. In this case, hang the rear or rear wheel securely, warm up the engine and turn it off. Shift into gear and start the engine again. Increasing the frequency of rotation of the crankshaft, sharply press the clutch and brake pedals.
After removing all obstacles, you and your car will be ready to hit the road.
