- lift the hood of the car and, turning the wheels of the car to the right (left), remove the cotter pins from the nuts of the ball joints, then press the pins out of the suspension strut pivot arms using device A.470.35 (see figure 86);
- acting from inside the car body, unscrew and remove the tie bolt 19 (see figure 101) flange of the steering shaft coupling;
- remove the steering shaft casings 21 and 26;
- disconnect the plug connector of the switch wires and the ignition switch;
- unscrew the bolts and nuts securing the steering shaft to the body bracket and remove bracket 27 together with shaft 25 and steering wheel 23, pulling them into the body interior; acting from the engine compartment side, unscrew the nuts securing the brackets 9 securing the steering gear to the front of the body;
- by pushing the steering gear forward, the drive gear is disconnected from the steering shaft 25;
- remove the steering mechanism assembly with the rods, pulling it towards the right wheel.
The installation of the steering control is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- before installing the steering mechanism, set the steering wheel spoke horizontally and align the marks A and B (see figure 101) on the boot and on the steering gear housing (the chamfer on the drive gear shaft must face the right in the direction of vehicle travel), and in this position connect the steering shaft to the drive pinion shaft;
- the nuts of the ball joint pins of the rods are cotter-pinned after tightening with a torque wrench. If the cutout of the nut does not coincide with the hole for the cotter pin, then the nut is tightened by an angle less than 60° to ensure cotter pinning;
- to facilitate the installation of the steering gear mounting brackets 9, lubricate the rubber supports 10 with washer fluid.
