After installing it on the stand and starting the engine, check:
- there are no coolant or fuel leaks between mating parts, from pipe connections and through gaskets;
- is there any oil leakage from under the oil filter sealing ring and through the gaskets;
- oil pressure;
- setting the ignition timing;
- idle speed;
- tightness of the connection between the carburetor and the intake manifold;
- are there any extraneous knocks?.
If any extraneous knocks or malfunctions are detected, stop the engine, eliminate them, and then continue testing.
If oil leaks through the gasket between the engine oil pan and the cylinder block, tighten the bolts to the recommended torque. If the oil leak does not stop, check the quality of the gaskets and replace them if necessary.
If oil leaks through the gasket between the cover and the cylinder head, check the gasket and the rubber bushings on the cylinder head cover mounting studs. If necessary, replace the gasket and bushings, following the recommendations in Section. "Engine assembly".
Since the engine has not yet been run in after repair and the friction of the working surfaces of the new parts provides significant resistance to rotation, a certain period of running in is necessary. This applies in particular to those engines on which the pistons, connecting rod and main bearing liners have been replaced, the crankshaft journals have been reground, and the cylinders have been honed.
Therefore, during the running-in of a repaired engine, it should not be brought to maximum loads. The running-in of the engine on the car should continue with the speeds recommended for a new car.
