Note. Replacing the muffler inlet pipe ring is shown on a VAZ 2110 with a 21124 (1.6i) engine, where the sealing ring is installed between the flanges of the inlet pipe and the additional muffler. On a VAZ 2112 (1.5i) engine, a metal-graphite ring is installed between the flanges of the inlet pipe and the catalytic converter, but the replacement work is performed in a similar way.
Recommendation: If the tightness of the hinge joint is broken and it cannot be restored by replacing the springs of the tension bolts, it is necessary to replace the metal-graphite ring of the inlet pipe.
To carry out repair work, an inspection pit or overpass is required.
Removal
1. Using a 13 mm wrench, unscrew the two clamping bolts of the muffler inlet pipe hinge joint...
...and remove the bolts together with the springs.
2. Slightly move the flanges apart. Using a slotted screwdriver, remove the metal-graphite sealing ring of the inlet pipe from its seat.
Installation
We install a new muffler inlet pipe sealing ring and all removed parts on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal.
