Note: On the VAZ 2112 (1.5i) engine, the oxygen concentration sensor is installed on the exhaust pipe.
To carry out repair work, an inspection pit or overpass is required.
Removal
1. Prepare the car for repair work (see points 2b and 4 "Preparing a car for maintenance and repair").
2. Disconnect the connectors of the oxygen concentration sensor wires (see point 2 "Oxygen Concentration Sensor - Checking and Replacing").
3. Using a 13 mm socket wrench, unscrew the two bolts of the movable hinge and remove the metal-graphite ring (see "Catalyst (catalytic converter) vAZ 2112 engine (1.5i) - removal and installation").
4. Using a 13 mm socket wrench, unscrew the two nuts (1) securing the exhaust manifold to the bracket and remove the bracket clamping bar.
5. Unscrew the two bolts securing the intake pipe bracket to the cylinder block and remove the bracket (see paragraphs 6 and 7 "Engine exhaust pipe 21124 (1.6i) - removal, installation, replacement").
6. Using a 14 mm socket wrench with an extension, unscrew the six nuts (2) securing the intake pipe to the exhaust manifold (in photo p. 4, three nuts from the cylinder block side are not visible) and remove the exhaust pipe.
7. Remove the muffler inlet pipe gasket from the exhaust manifold studs.
8. Using a 22 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the oxygen concentration sensor.
Installation
We install the exhaust pipe and all the removed parts on the car in the reverse order of removal. We replace the exhaust pipe gasket and fastening nuts with new ones. The bracket with damaged studs must also be replaced.
Recommendation: If one or more exhaust manifold studs break when removing the downpipe, remove the manifold (see "Exhaust manifold of VAZ 2112 engine (1.5i) - removal and installation"). Drill out the damaged studs (first with a drill with a diameter of 5, and then with an 8.5 mm drill) and cut the thread M10x1.25. Sometimes it is possible to unscrew the remains of the broken stud with a tap. Screw in the repair studs (M10x1.25x25).
