Roof panel replacement (VAZ-1111)

Remove the windshield, tailgate, roof trim, assemblies and parts that impede straightening and welding work. Use a 6-7 mm drill to drill out contact welding points where the roof panel joins the side panels, side trims, along the front and rear edges. Then use a thin, sharp chisel to cut off or grind off the continuous weld joints at the front and rear pillars. Disconnect the roof panel from the mating parts.

The edges of the deformed parts are straightened and cleaned with a grinder. Holes with a diameter of 5 mm are drilled along the edges of the new panel with a pitch of 40-50 mm. The roof panel is installed in place, adjusted to the mating parts and the openings of the windshield and tailgate, and secured with pliers. The tailgate is temporarily hung with an adjustment to the opening and gaps and the panel is tacked with welding at 6-8 points. The tailgate is removed and the roof panel is welded along the drilled holes. At the corners, the panel is welded with a continuous seam over a length of 20 mm. The welds are cleaned, the welding surfaces of the body are prepared for painting and anti-corrosion protection. The tailgate is installed with adjustment of the gaps in the body opening. After painting and anti-corrosion treatment, the removed units and parts are put back in place.

Welding is performed in a carbon dioxide environment using Sv-08G1S or Sv-08G2S wire with a diameter of 0.8 mm.
