Removal the radiator
Open the heater tap, remove the plug from the filler neck of the expansion tank and drain the liquid from the radiator and cylinder block, removing the drain plugs in the lower tank of the radiator and the cylinder block. Remove the radiator plug. In order not to damage the radiator, unscrew the drain plug using two keys. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the hoses from the radiator. Remove the radiator casing by unscrewing the mounting bolts. Unscrew the bolts securing the radiator to the body and remove it.
Checking for leaks
Reasons for frequent topping up of coolant may be:
- incorrect operation of the radiator cap valves. It is necessary to check the opening pressure of the outlet valve, which should be (0.5±0.05) kgf/cm²;
- insufficient tightness of the radiator cap gasket. In this case, the cap must be replaced;
- radiator leak. Check the radiator for leaks by plugging the radiator pipes and immersing it in water. Apply compressed air at a pressure of 1 kgf/cm². You can check the radiator for leaks without removing it from the car. To do this, with the pipes plugged, fill the radiator with water at a pressure of 1 kgf/cm². Any small leak detected is fixed by soldering with soft solder. In case of significant damage, plug the pipes.
It is allowed to muffle (necessarily on both sides) no more than 1.5% of the number of cooling tubes.
