Raise the rear of the car and remove the wheel. Take measures to prevent leakage of fluid from the tank. Remove the brake drum by unscrewing the mounting bolts and installing them in the technological holes of the drum. Tighten the set screws evenly without much force until the drum separates. If the drum cannot be removed in this way, then the following method is allowed as a last resort. Having unscrewed the guide pins from the drum, lubricate the seat on the axle shaft with engine oil or a preparation «Unisma» in an aerosol package. Start the engine, engage 1st gear and press the brake pedal. In this case, special care must be taken, since the drum, when separated, can cause injury to those standing nearby.
Disconnect from lever 7 (see fig. 203) cable end 4 while pressing pin 9 and remove the lever. Then disconnect the top and bottom return springs. Turning the cups of the support legs 6, remove them together with the uprights, springs and lower cups, remove the blocks 5 and 2 and the spacer plate of the blocks 8. Disconnect the pipeline from the wheel cylinder 10 and plug the holes of the cylinder and pipeline. Remove the wheel cylinder. If it is necessary to replace the shield 12 of the brake, then remove the axle shaft, as indicated in the section «rear axle», and disconnect the rear cable 4 by unscrewing the two bolts of its fastening to the brake shield.
